Shatta Wale Sues Blakk Rasta Over Alleged Defamatory Video

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has initiated legal action against broadcaster and fellow musician Blakk Rasta over what he describes as defamatory statements made in a controversial online video.

According to a court summons sighted by ONEKING MULTIMEDIA on Monday, January 19, 2026, Shatta Wale is challenging comments made by Blakk Rasta in a video titled “Shatta Wale, Self-Confessed King of Fraud.” The suit alleges that the statements contained in the video are false, malicious, and have caused significant harm to his reputation, brand, and professional standing both in Ghana and internationally.

The artiste, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., contends that the publication and circulation of the video have subjected him to public ridicule, damaged his credibility, and negatively affected his commercial value as a brand ambassador and entertainer. The summons argues that the statements go beyond fair comment and amount to deliberate character assassination.

As part of the reliefs being sought, Shatta Wale is demanding that Blakk Rasta immediately remove and permanently delete the video from all platforms where it has been published, shared, or reposted. This includes social media platforms and any other digital or broadcast channels through which the content may have been disseminated.

In addition to the removal of the video, the plaintiff is requesting a public apology from Blakk Rasta. According to the summons, the apology is to be published prominently in full-page format in three national newspapers — Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times, and Graphic Showbiz. The apology, Shatta Wale insists, must be unequivocal and acknowledge the alleged harm caused by the statements.

The legal action further demands damages in the sum of GHS 100,000,000. The amount, according to the suit, reflects the extent of reputational damage, emotional distress, and potential loss of business opportunities resulting from the alleged defamatory publication.

This lawsuit represents the latest chapter in a long-standing public feud between Shatta Wale and Blakk Rasta, two prominent figures in Ghana’s entertainment and media landscape. Over the years, tensions between the pair have frequently played out in the media, on radio programmes, and across social media platforms, often drawing strong reactions from fans and industry observers.

Blakk Rasta, known for his outspoken commentary on social and entertainment issues, has in the past been critical of Shatta Wale’s public persona and conduct. However, this latest development marks a significant escalation, as the dispute has now moved from the court of public opinion to the law courts.

Legal analysts note that defamation cases involving public figures often hinge on whether the statements in question can be proven to be factual or constitute fair comment made in the public interest. They also point out that the scale of damages being sought underscores how seriously Shatta Wale views the alleged harm to his image.

As of the time of filing this report, Blakk Rasta has not issued any public response to the lawsuit, nor has he commented on whether he intends to contest or comply with the demands outlined in the summons.

The case is expected to attract significant public interest as proceedings unfold, given the high-profile nature of both parties and the substantial damages being claimed. The outcome could also have wider implications for commentary and criticism within Ghana’s entertainment industry.
