Russian Embassy Responds to Alleged Sex Recording Case

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Ghana has acknowledged media reports in Ghana concerning the alleged involvement of a supposed Russian national in sexual activities with some Ghanaian women, which were reportedly recorded without their consent.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, February 16, 2026, the Embassy said it had taken note of reports circulating in the Ghanaian media regarding claims that a man believed to be Russian engaged in sexual relations with Ghanaian women and secretly recorded the encounters.

“The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Ghana has taken note of the reports in the Ghanaian media on the alleged involvement of a supposedly Russian citizen engaged in sexual activities with some Ghanaian women and recorded those acts without consent,” the statement read.

However, the Embassy stopped short of confirming the identity or nationality of the individual involved. It also did not indicate whether it has formally verified the claims or initiated any official engagement with Ghanaian authorities over the matter.

The statement comes amid growing public concern and widespread discussion on Ghanaian social media platforms. In recent days, several online news outlets have carried allegations that a foreign man, believed to be Russian, was involved in a scheme targeting Ghanaian women for sexual encounters, which were allegedly filmed secretly and possibly stored or shared.

The allegations have sparked significant outrage, with many Ghanaians demanding a full-scale investigation and swift prosecution should the claims be substantiated. Civil society groups and digital rights advocates have also raised concerns about privacy violations and the increasing threat of image-based sexual abuse.

Under Ghanaian law, secretly recording intimate acts without consent constitutes a criminal offence. Such actions may attract severe penalties, including imprisonment, if proven in court. Legal experts note that beyond criminal sanctions, victims may also pursue civil remedies for violations of privacy and dignity.

As of now, Ghanaian authorities have not publicly confirmed the details of any ongoing investigation. It remains unclear whether the individual at the centre of the allegations is still within the country or has left Ghana’s jurisdiction.

The Russian Embassy’s statement, while acknowledging the reports, leaves several questions unanswered, particularly regarding possible diplomatic cooperation if the allegations are verified.

With public attention intensifying, many observers say the next steps by Ghanaian law enforcement and any potential diplomatic engagement will be critical in ensuring accountability and justice for any victims involved.
