Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging.
On Monday, the judge found Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide leading to the death of his wife on April 8, 2022.

The prosecution, led by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), arraigned Nwachukwu on June 3, 2022. He faced 23 counts, including culpable homicide, spousal battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation.
During the trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the couple’s children. They also submitted 25 documents as evidence.
In his defense, Nwachukwu testified personally and presented four witnesses. He submitted four documents to support his case.
Before sentencing, Nwachukwu’s lawyer, Reginald Nwali, pleaded for leniency. However, the prosecution counsel, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to apply the full force of the law.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme ruled firmly, sentencing Peter Nwachukwu to death by hanging for culpable homicide.

He also received additional punishments:
- Two years in prison each for Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18.
- Six months in prison for Count 10.
- Three years in prison for Count 11.
- Fines of ₦500,000 and ₦200,000 for Counts 6 and 7.

With this judgment, many hope justice has been served, and her memory will inspire action against domestic abuse. While no legal verdict can undo the harm caused, the sentencing of Peter Nwachukwu is a step towards justice for Osinachi. It serves as a reminder that society must stand united against domestic violence and work to ensure such tragedies are not repeated.
