Perez Musik Says Economic Hardship Weakening Youth’s Faith in Ghana

Ghanaian gospel musician Frank Tagoe, popularly known as Perez Musik, has expressed deep concern about how Ghana’s current economic hardship is affecting the spiritual lives of young people.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Monday, October 27, the “Kaafo” hitmaker said that financial struggles and unemployment have made it increasingly difficult for the youth to stay connected to God.

“One thing that’s making it difficult for them to worship is hunger,” Perez Musik stated, emphasizing how the daily pursuit of survival has taken precedence over spiritual commitment.

He explained that the high cost of living and limited job opportunities have left many young people discouraged and disengaged from religious life. “When someone is hungry and jobless, it’s hard to tell them to come to church and worship for hours,” he said.

Perez Musik, who is celebrated for spirit-filled songs such as “Blema Tesaa” and “Hewale Lala”, urged church leaders to become more responsive to the material and emotional needs of their congregants, especially the youth.

“The church must not only focus on preaching and singing but also look at how to support the youth materially and emotionally,” he advised.

According to him, addressing practical life challenges alongside spiritual guidance will help restore young people’s faith and motivate them to engage more deeply in worship.

He added that true ministry should extend beyond sermons and music to encompass compassion, mentorship, and empowerment programs that uplift the youth in tangible ways.

Perez Musik’s comments echo the growing sentiment among Ghanaians that economic hardship is not only affecting livelihoods but also eroding the spiritual and moral fabric of society.

As many churches continue to explore ways of supporting their members through social interventions and community initiatives, Perez Musik believes this approach will reignite hope and strengthen faith among Ghana’s young generation.
