Empress Gifty Withdraws Defamation Lawsuits Against Nana Agradaa After Settlement

Gospel musician Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye has officially withdrawn her defamation lawsuits against self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, following an amicable settlement between the two parties.

The legal dispute, which attracted significant public attention, has been formally concluded after Nana Agradaa paid GH¢100,000 as part of the settlement agreement. The payment was made to cover legal fees and related expenses incurred by Empress Gifty during the course of the litigation.

According to Nana Agradaa’s lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, the settlement was finalised on January 20, 2026, and subsequently adopted as Consent Judgments by both the Tema Land Court and the Tema Main Court. The adoption of the Consent Judgments effectively brings to an end the two separate defamation cases that were filed in May and June 2025.

Empress Gifty initiated the lawsuits after a series of social media posts by Nana Agradaa, which she described as defamatory, damaging, and injurious to her reputation as a gospel musician and public figure. In her original claims, the singer sought GH¢40 million in damages, a perpetual injunction to restrain Nana Agradaa from making further defamatory statements, the removal of the offending content from social media platforms, and full legal costs.

However, rather than proceeding to a full trial, both parties opted for an out-of-court resolution through negotiations. Under the terms of the settlement, Nana Agradaa not only paid the agreed GH¢100,000 but also publicly retracted the statements that formed the basis of the lawsuits.

As part of the agreement, Nana Agradaa issued a public apology to Empress Gifty and took steps to address the online circulation of the disputed content. This included formally requesting the National Information Technology Authority (NITA) to facilitate the removal of the defamatory posts from relevant social media platforms.

Mr. Asare Baffour confirmed that all the conditions outlined in the settlement agreement have been fully complied with. He stated that the payment has been made in full, the apology has been issued as agreed, and the necessary steps have been taken to remove the contentious content online.

With the adoption of the Consent Judgments by the courts, Empress Gifty has officially withdrawn all claims arising from the defamation lawsuits, bringing the prolonged legal dispute to a definitive close.

The resolution marks a significant moment in a case that highlighted growing concerns over social media defamation in Ghana’s entertainment and religious spaces. For many observers, the settlement underscores the importance of responsible online communication and the legal consequences that can arise from defamatory publications.

Both parties are now expected to move forward following the conclusion of the case, which has been settled without further legal confrontation.
