Ghana’s national team, the Ghana national football team, has been rocked by a robbery incident at their training camp in Vienna, just days before their international friendly against Austria.
The team had opened camp earlier in the week, with training sessions beginning on Monday as preparations intensified for their upcoming fixtures. However, the atmosphere was disrupted after two players reported the theft of Rolex watches valued at approximately $20,000 following the team’s third training session on Wednesday.
The situation worsened the next day when a member of the technical team discovered that $2,250 in cash had also gone missing, raising further concerns within the camp.

Team officials quickly reported the incident to local authorities, who have since begun investigations. However, efforts to identify those responsible have been hampered by a major setback, as hotel management disclosed that the facility’s security cameras were not functioning at the time of the incident.
Despite the disruption, the team remains focused on their scheduled match against Austria, set to take place at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion. The fixture is expected to kick off at 17:00 GMT and forms part of Ghana’s preparations for upcoming international competitions.
Head coach Otto Addo and his squad are determined to maintain concentration, putting the unfortunate incident behind them as they aim to deliver a strong performance on the pitch.
Following the Austria clash, the Black Stars will travel to Stuttgart for another high-profile friendly against Germany on Monday, March 30.
Both matches are seen as crucial opportunities for the technical team to assess player performance, build team chemistry, and fine-tune tactics ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The encounter with Austria will mark the first meeting between the two nations since their 1-1 draw at the same venue in March 2007, adding an extra layer of significance to the game.
With the World Cup approaching, expectations are high for a competitive showing from both sides. For Ghana, the focus remains on building momentum and ensuring the squad is well-prepared for the global stage.
While the robbery has cast a shadow over the team’s preparations, the Black Stars will be hoping to channel their focus into a strong performance as they continue their journey toward the World Cup.
