GRA Pledges Tax Support for Ghana’s Fashion Industry

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s creative economy, with a special focus on the fashion sector, as part of broader efforts to stimulate economic growth and national development.

Speaking at the launch of the Business of Ghanaian Fashion Nexus in Accra on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Elsie Appau-Klu, Technical Advisor to the Commissioner-General of the GRA, highlighted the enormous potential of the fashion industry to create jobs, strengthen trade, and contribute significantly to the national economy.

“At the GRA, we recognise the significant contributions of the creative industry to Ghana’s economic growth and development. The GRA is committed to supporting the fashion industry through various incentives and activities, including tax incentives and streamlining tax compliance processes,” Appau-Klu stated.

Her remarks come at a crucial time, as stakeholders across Ghana’s fashion industry have been calling for stronger institutional support to scale up small and medium enterprises (SMEs), boost export readiness, and attract sustainable investment.

The Business of Ghanaian Fashion Nexus, an initiative launched by Fashion Nexus Ghana, aims to formalise and strengthen the country’s fashion value chain through summits, training programmes, and capacity-building workshops. By aligning with state institutions such as the GRA, the initiative is expected to create a more enabling environment for designers, textile producers, manufacturers, and other stakeholders.

Industry experts say that the GRA’s commitment to simplifying tax processes and introducing targeted incentives could help fashion entrepreneurs formalise their businesses, comply with tax regulations, and expand their operations both domestically and internationally.

With Ghana’s fashion industry gaining global visibility through high-profile designers, international collaborations, and rising consumer demand, structured support from state institutions is increasingly seen as vital to positioning Ghana as a hub for African fashion.

For many industry watchers, the partnership between the GRA and initiatives such as the Business of Ghanaian Fashion Nexus could serve as a turning point in transforming fashion from a largely informal industry into a powerful driver of national economic growth.
