TV3 Faces Backlash Over Sarkodie Comment on 3Xtra Show

TV3 is under fire after a viral segment from their entertainment show 3Xtra sparked outrage across the creative industry. During a question-and-answer session, a guest stunned viewers with a blunt claim that no Ghanaian artiste currently has the potential to win a Grammy.

“I don’t think there’s any artist for now,” he said. “Maybe in the future, God might be on our side.”

But tensions escalated when the host specifically asked about Sarkodie, one of Ghana’s most celebrated rappers. The guest’s response?
“Naaa, I think his career is dead.”

The video quickly went viral, drawing widespread criticism from artistes, actors, and fans. Many accused TV3 of platforming disrespect and promoting negativity for clicks and engagement

Award-winning singer Efya was one of the first to speak out, posting on X:
“This isn’t journalism. This is clickbait. Ghanaian media must stop building relevance by tearing down its own.”

She questioned why negativity seems to dominate entertainment conversations in the country:
“Why is positivity not prioritized? Only drama and hot takes? It’s crazy!”

Rapper Medikal responded angrily, sharing the clip with a furious message:
“Dumbass station, stupid ass admin, foolish boy! Don’t play my music again!”

Actress Lydia Forson added a thoughtful reflection, asking why negative discourse has become normalized:
“Do you know what it takes to sustain a 20-year career? This culture needs to change.”

Comedian DKB also joined the backlash with his signature humor:
“Ghana is the only place someone without a career declares yours over. Career police. Banku!”

As of now, TV3 has not issued an official statement, adding fuel to public disappointment. Fans and creatives are urging the network to take responsibility and shift toward more positive, responsible journalism.

The incident has reignited calls to protect the dignity of Ghanaian artistes and refocus entertainment discourse on growth, recognition, and unity—rather than mockery and negativity.
