TGMA 2025 to Enforce Exclusive Red Carpet Entry Protocol

As anticipation builds for the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), organisers have announced a significant change to the structure of the event’s iconic red carpet experience.

This year, access to the main red carpet will be strictly by invitation, a move intended to restore sanity, order, and production value to the ceremony.

The prestigious awards night, scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, will feature two distinct red carpet sessions. The first will cater to general media interviews and photoshoots. The second, which is the televised main red carpet, will be exclusively reserved for invited celebrities and dignitaries—those officially approved by the organisers to appear.

This marks a strategic shift by event producers Charterhouse, who say the new format will enhance the overall quality and presentation of the red carpet segment, especially for live TV and digital broadcasts.

In recent years, there has been mounting criticism of the TGMA red carpet experience. Many fans and industry stakeholders have expressed concern over the presence of unverified personalities and lacklustre fashion displays that, in their view, have watered down the prestige of the segment. Others believe the absence of proper curation and red carpet production has led to unnecessarily long sessions with limited entertainment value.

The “invitation-only” rule for the main red carpet is seen as a bold attempt to rebrand and refine the image of the event. Not only does it offer an opportunity to showcase Ghana’s fashion and creative industry in its best light, but it also aligns the TGMA with global standards in red carpet management.

A spokesperson for Charterhouse said the new policy is designed to celebrate excellence, elegance, and authenticity, ensuring that the spotlight remains on those truly deserving of national attention.

With the 2025 edition promising to be a visual and musical spectacle, fans can expect a more focused and glamorous red carpet segment, with verified celebrities being asked the famous fashion question: “Who are you wearing?”

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards is produced by Charterhouse and proudly supported by Guinness, British Council, Close-Up, KPMG, and TV3, with Telecel serving as the headline sponsor, driving the theme “Connecting Energies.”

The changes introduced this year are not only aimed at restoring the red carpet’s prestige but also at redefining standards within Ghana’s entertainment industry, making TGMA 2025 a benchmark event for African music and style.
