Ghanaian singer Sefa has revealed that before finding success in music, she faced strong discouragement from people who believed she was better suited for a career in the military.
Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM on Tuesday, February 24, the musician disclosed that several individuals questioned her decision to pursue music. According to her, many felt the path she had chosen was not ideal and tried to steer her in a different direction.
Sefa explained that some of the comments were tied to her physical appearance, particularly her height. Because of this, a number of people suggested that she should consider becoming a soldier instead of building a career in the entertainment industry.
“A couple of people were telling me to be a soldier,” she said during the interview.
Despite the unsolicited advice, Sefa maintained that music was her true passion. She remained committed to her dream even when others struggled to understand her vision or see her potential.
“It’s nice to follow your passion and know that it’s working out for you,” she noted, adding that outsiders often fail to appreciate what an artiste believes in during the early stages of their journey.
The singer admitted that the road to recognition was not easy. There was a period when she was consistently releasing songs, yet they were not gaining the level of attention and success she had hoped for. Watching the progress of other artistes at the time proved challenging, but she chose to stay focused on her own growth rather than comparing herself to others.
Sefa further revealed that when she joined her record label, her mindset was not centered on competition or trying to outshine her label mates. Instead, her primary goal was to work diligently and establish her brand.
“I just wanted to work hard and make sure my name becomes a household name,” she stated.
Her determination and patience, she believes, have played a crucial role in shaping her current success. Over time, her music has gained wider acceptance, and her presence in Ghana’s music industry has grown significantly.
Today, Sefa says she is grateful to God and her team for the progress she has made. She views her journey as proof that perseverance and self-belief can overcome doubt and criticism. The same qualities that once led people to question her path are now part of the story that defines her resilience.
