Sefa Opens Up About Hurtful “Talentless” Comment

Ghanaian singer Sefa has opened up about a painful social media comment that deeply affected her during the early stages of her music career.

Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM on Tuesday, February 24, the musician recalled how online criticism once pushed her to an emotional breaking point.

According to Sefa, the incident occurred when she decided to go through comments about herself on X, formerly Twitter. What she encountered, she said, changed her relationship with the platform permanently.

She revealed that a commenter claimed her former label boss, D Black, was wasting money on her career. The individual described her as “talentless” and suggested she was undeserving of the investment being made in her music journey.

For the singer, the comment was especially painful because it dismissed the hard work and dedication she had been putting in behind the scenes—efforts that are rarely visible to the public.

“You don’t know how much work I put in behind the scenes. You don’t know how much investment I put in,” she explained during the interview. She noted that many people judge her solely based on curated social media posts and public appearances, without understanding the sacrifices and commitment required to build a music career.

Sefa also addressed the stereotype of being labeled as just a “pretty face” with no substance. She described the perception as disturbing and emotionally draining, particularly because it undermined her skills, discipline, and creative input.

The singer admitted that reading the comment broke her emotionally at the time. It forced her to retreat inward and reflect deeply on her journey. However, rather than allowing the criticism to derail her ambitions, she used it as motivation.

“That was where the vim and the vigor came,” she said, explaining that the experience ignited a stronger determination within her. Instead of giving up, she resolved to work even harder to prove that she was deserving of the support and belief placed in her.

The revelation highlights the mental and emotional challenges artistes often face in the digital age. Social media, while offering visibility and fan engagement, can also expose creatives to harsh criticism and unfair judgment.

Today, Sefa says the painful experience helped shape her mindset. It reminded her that success in the music industry requires resilience, thick skin, and the ability to rise above negative opinions. The comment that once hurt her ultimately became fuel for growth and self-belief.

Her story serves as a reminder that behind the glamour of entertainment lies hard work, vulnerability, and the courage to keep pushing forward—despite the noise.
