Ghanaian Afrobeats star Olivetheboy has made headlines after naming gospel ensemble Team Eternity as his choice for Artiste of the Year at the upcoming 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz on Thursday, May 8, Olivetheboy was asked to select his favourite contender among this year’s top nominees: King Paluta, Stonebwoy, King Promise, Black Sherif, Joe Mettle, and Team Eternity.

In an unexpected turn, he bypassed mainstream heavyweights to back the gospel group.
“Actually today, I’m feeling very religious, I’m feeling very very religious. I won’t choose people in my circle. [I will choose] Team Eternity, however it goes,” he said.
His candid response has sparked widespread conversation in both entertainment and gospel music circles, as it signals growing recognition for gospel musicians in mainstream award categories typically dominated by secular artists.
Team Eternity, known for their powerful worship sessions and growing digital presence, have enjoyed a breakout year. Their influence has stretched beyond church walls, capturing the attention of a wider audience through social media, live performances, and streaming platforms. Their nomination alongside secular chart-toppers is seen as a testament to the evolving landscape of Ghanaian music.
Olivetheboy’s endorsement could also be viewed as a nod to the spiritual grounding of his own artistry. While best known for his breakout hit “GoodSin” and more recently “Asylum”, he has often emphasized emotional authenticity and social consciousness in his music.
Interestingly, Olivetheboy is also a contender at this year’s awards. He has received nominations in three major categories: Most Popular Song of the Year with Asylum, Songwriter of the Year, and *Afrobeats Song of the Year. His rising popularity and consistent performances over the last year have made him a fan favourite among the Gen Z and millennial demographic.

As excitement builds ahead of the TGMA ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2025, industry observers are keeping a close eye on the final outcome. Whether or not Team Eternity clinches the top prize, the support from a mainstream artist like Olivetheboy is a milestone for gospel music’s integration into Ghana’s broader music culture.
Olivetheboy’s statement also serves as a reminder of the diversity and spiritual depth within Ghana’s music industry—a space where secular and sacred can harmoniously coexist.
The 2025 TGMAs promise to be an exciting celebration of talent, with surprises likely to unfold both on stage and off. Until then, all eyes remain on who will ultimately take home the coveted Artiste of the Year award.
