Kwabena Kwabena Enters UPSA SRC Race to Inspire Student Leadership

Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician George Kwabena Adu, widely known as Kwabena Kwabena, has officially declared his candidacy for the Student Representative Council (SRC) presidency at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

This bold move highlights a fusion of artistry, education, and leadership, as the celebrated artist seeks to influence student governance with creativity and vision.

Kwabena Kwabena, known for timeless hits and multiple music awards, is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at UPSA. His decision to seek student office reflects a deepened commitment to personal development and meaningful engagement with his academic community.

In his official announcement, the highlife legend stated his intent to promote academic excellence, inclusivity, and a vibrant student life, all while fostering unity across cultural and artistic boundaries. His campaign slogan, “Leadership with Creativity and Purpose,” reflects his desire to blend artistry with effective governance.

“My goal is to build a student government that reflects the true diversity, strength, and creativity of UPSA,” Kwabena Kwabena shared. “This campaign isn’t just about winning a title; it’s about serving with heart and vision.”

The musician is no stranger to leadership and social impact. Through his Save A Life Foundation, he has long supported health and education initiatives across Ghana. His foray into student leadership is thus a natural extension of his passion for uplifting communities.

Kwabena Kwabena joins a growing list of Ghanaian musicians who have entered student politics, inspired by the likes of Samini, who served as SRC President at GIMPA, and Guru, who also launched a campaign at the University of Ghana. Dr Cryme also notably led the SRC at Methodist University. These examples continue to redefine the role of creatives in public service and student leadership.

The upcoming UPSA SRC election, scheduled for May 30, 2025, is expected to draw significant attention both on and off campus due to Kwabena Kwabena’s popularity and influence. His campaign team has hinted at a policy-driven approach focusing on infrastructure improvements, increased student engagement, mental health support, and stronger student-alumni connections.

As the countdown to the election begins, Kwabena Kwabena’s candidacy is already energizing the student body and elevating conversations around leadership, education, and the evolving role of celebrities in civic life.

In his words:

“It’s time we proved that creativity and governance are not mutually exclusive. Let’s lead, let’s inspire, and let’s create lasting change—together.”
