Ghanaian music sensation King Promise, who recently won the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), has opened up about the lessons he’s gathered from previous nominations and his remarkable rise in the industry.
In an exclusive interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, the “Terminator” and “Paris” hitmaker shared reflections on the ups and downs of his musical journey and how he turned disappointment into motivation.

According to King Promise, losing in earlier TGMA nominations taught him a fundamental lesson—resilience and self-belief.
“It’s really just one lesson—just keep pushing, bro,” he said. “You need to believe in yourself. What people see that you don’t see in yourself, you need to work so hard that you turn non-believers into believers.”
He recalled his first TGMA experience where, despite earning seven nominations, he walked away without a win. Instead of feeling crushed, he embraced the moment with humility and excitement, using the experience as fuel for growth.
“It’s really just one word—resilience,” he said. “That day, I was very excited to be there. I didn’t go with any high expectations like I did this year. I wasn’t too hard on myself. For me, I thought it was a nice experience.”
The 2025 TGMA marked a turning point in King Promise’s career, where his persistence finally paid off. He not only won Artiste of the Year, but also bagged Afropop Song of the Year with “Paris,” Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste, and Album of the Year with True to Self.

King Promise attributed this breakthrough to hard work, innovation, and staying true to his vision.
“The hard work is quite evident with regards to what I have done with the music. From when I landed on the scene to where I always wanted to take this, there wasn’t really a template. I had to carve my own path, just dey my own lane with my team working together.”
He added that while the journey was far from easy, the support of his team and his decision to stay focused on long-term goals were crucial to his success.

King Promise’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and self-confidence in the music industry. His victory at the 2025 TGMAs not only marks a career milestone but also serves as an inspiration to upcoming artistes navigating similar challenges.
As he continues to evolve musically and expand his reach beyond Ghana, King Promise remains committed to staying grounded, focused, and ready for greater heights.
