Ghanaian musician King Paluta and his management team have formally petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board over what they describe as an unjustified snub of his hit song “Makoma” in key award categories. The artist submitted the song for Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year, but it failed to receive a nomination in any of these categories.

In a letter dated March 18, 2025, and addressed to the TGMA board, King Paluta’s management expressed disappointment, stating that “Makoma” was one of the most popular songs released during the year under review. The petition highlights that the song garnered significant attention and excitement among music lovers, making its exclusion from the nominations list questionable.
The artist’s team also reaffirmed their confidence in the credibility of the awards while demanding a convincing explanation for the board’s decision. They emphasized that “Makoma” does not violate any ethical or moral requirements and expressed willingness to engage in discussions regarding the reconsideration of the song in the submitted categories.
This move by King Paluta reflects growing concerns among Ghanaian musicians about transparency in award nominations and selections. Fans of the rapper have also taken to social media to voice their support, with many expressing frustration over the snub.
As of now, the TGMA board has yet to issue an official response to King Paluta’s petition. The situation continues to spark conversations about fairness in the Ghanaian music industry and the criteria used for award selections.
