Gyakie Hails Omar Sterling as Her All-Time Favourite Ghanaian Rapper

Ghanaian Afro-fusion sensation Gyakie has declared Omar Sterling, a member of the iconic music group R2Bees, as her all-time favourite rapper from Ghana. The revelation came during a recent interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with host Kwame Dadzie, where she opened up about her musical preferences and inspirations.

Gyakie, known for hit songs like “Forever” and “Something”, described Omar Sterling—also known as Paedae—as a lyrical genius whose depth and storytelling set him apart in Ghana’s rap scene.

“My favourite rapper in Ghana now is Omar Sterling of R2Bees. He’s always been. Yea, he’s my all-time favourite Ghana rapper,” she confidently stated.

Expanding on her admiration, Gyakie explained what makes Omar Sterling unique in her eyes.

“Omar Sterling is a poet. I always say every time that his rap is always different. The storytelling—he gives his audience stories about his life or things that are happening in real time, and it’s the way he puts the lyrics together for the listener to understand what he is saying that always gets me very happy. I think he’s a very good writer and he’s a good storyteller,” she said.

Though not a rapper herself, Gyakie shared that she has a deep appreciation for the rap genre and occasionally incorporates rap elements into her songs.

“I’m not a rapper but I love rap. Sometimes I even try to fuse it into my music because it gives my songs a fresh dynamic,” she noted.

Gyakie, who is the daughter of Ghanaian Highlife legend Nana Acheampong, attributes her diverse sound to her eclectic upbringing, which exposed her to various musical styles ranging from Highlife and R&B to Soul and Hip-Hop. This wide array of influences continues to shape her distinctive Afro-fusion style.

Currently, Gyakie is promoting her new single Sankofa, which is the lead track from her upcoming debut album titled “After Midnight”. The project promises to showcase her growth as an artist and explore new sonic territories.

With her endorsement of Omar Sterling as her all-time favourite rapper, Gyakie joins a long list of music lovers who continue to celebrate the lyrical prowess and legacy of the R2Bees co-founder. Her appreciation for strong lyricism and storytelling also highlights the importance of meaningful content in modern Ghanaian music.

As anticipation builds for her ‘After Midnight’ album, fans can expect more personal, lyrically rich, and genre-blending music from Gyakie, one of Ghana’s brightest young stars.
