DJ Mensah Calls for National Support as Sarkodie Targets O2 Arena After Royal Albert Hall Success

Ghanaian DJ and music executive DJ Mensah has called on the government, corporate institutions and key stakeholders within the music industry to support rapper Sarkodie as he prepares to expand his Rapperholic UK concert following a historic performance in London.

The appeal comes after the inaugural Rapperholic UK show held at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London on March 6, 2026.

The concert marked a major milestone for Ghanaian music on the global stage, with all 5,272 seats at the prestigious venue sold out ahead of the event.

Reacting to the experience in a reflective social media post, DJ Mensah described the atmosphere inside the venue as unique and symbolic for Ghanaian music and the diaspora community.

According to him, the energy during the performance reflected the pride and strong connection that exists between Ghanaian artistes and fans living abroad.

“Low key, something interesting happened. RapperholicUK… energy in the room felt different. Louder, not in a noisy way, but bigger,” he wrote.

“You could feel the energy, excitement, pride, the hunger, the connection. For a moment, it even felt like the diaspora had turned the volume up higher than Accra itself,” he added.

The Rapperholic concert series was launched by Sarkodie in 2012 as an annual music event in Ghana. Over the years, it has grown into one of the country’s most recognised hip-hop brands, bringing together leading artistes and fans to celebrate Ghanaian music.

Following the success of the Royal Albert Hall event, Sarkodie has now announced plans to take the next edition of Rapperholic UK to the massive The O2 Arena, one of the largest indoor venues in Europe.

The arena has a seating capacity of around 20,000 people, making it nearly four times larger than the Royal Albert Hall venue that hosted the first UK edition.

DJ Mensah believes the upcoming concert presents a major opportunity to elevate Ghanaian music globally.

“Now the big @theo2london. This our music World Cup in one night. Sark & friends on one big stage. Twenty thousand people in one room. Millions of eyeballs will be reached,” he wrote.

DJ Mensah is urging businesses, industry stakeholders and individuals to support the event by purchasing tickets and financially backing the initiative.

“I call on corporate entities, stakeholders, shareholders and individuals to buy tickets for themselves and for their loved ones to witness Ghanaian music at its absolute highest level,” he said.

Beyond ticket sales, the DJ also proposed the creation of a cultural travel initiative that would allow fans from across the world to attend the event.

He suggested establishing a Rapperholic UK travel portal where fans could secure their event tickets alongside hotel bookings and travel arrangements.

“Just like we opened a portal for supporters to apply for visas for the World Cup, the same idea could apply here,” he explained.

According to DJ Mensah, such an initiative could attract fans from Ghana, Europe and the United States to London for a major celebration of Ghanaian music.

“Fans flying in from Accra, across Europe, from the United States, and everywhere else … all landing in London for one purpose: to celebrate Ghanaian music on one of the biggest stages in the world,” he said.

He further proposed that the event be incorporated into national celebrations marking Ghana’s upcoming milestone anniversary, describing it as an opportunity to showcase Ghana’s culture to a global audience.

“This vision must be backed financially by government and made part of the official Ghana @70 calendar across all the offices that matter,” he added.

For DJ Mensah, the success of Rapperholic UK represents more than just a concert. He believes it is a defining moment that demonstrates how music, culture and national pride can unite audiences around the world while placing Ghana firmly on the global entertainment map.
