Cwesi Oteng Reveals Spiritual Attacks from Fellow Gospel Artists

Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Cwesi Oteng has opened up about the challenges he faced within the gospel fraternity during his early rise to fame. In a candid interview on Joy Prime’s “Changes” with Roselyn Felli, the singer recounted how some of his peers in the industry allegedly attempted to sabotage his career through both spiritual means and personal attacks.

Cwesi Oteng, who broke into the music scene with hits such as “I Win” and “God Dey Bless Me”, shared that his unique style of gospel music and rapid success triggered jealousy and discomfort among established gospel artists. According to him, the backlash wasn’t just verbal—he alleged that his debut album was even taken to cemeteries and other mysterious locations as part of spiritual efforts to derail his success.

“When I stepped out into gospel music, I was like a fresh idea and I started breaking a lot of grounds where gospel had not entered. Suddenly, doors were opening for gospel music. It also came with a lot of attacks. At a point it’s a war spiritually and everything,” Oteng revealed.

He further explained that much of the opposition came from within the church and the gospel music community itself. “Church people were attacking and said all sorts of things. Gospel musicians also felt like the guy has come to change the scene,” he added, emphasizing that the pushback stemmed from fear of being overshadowed.

These attacks, he admitted, took a toll on his career, affecting his visibility in the industry and the reception of his newer songs. As a result, Cwesi chose to step back and focus on personal growth and spiritual renewal.

“You also want to live long and so when you realise that, you would want to re-energize yourself. Stardom is really my thing; I can leave the scene, go and take care of myself for a year and come back,” he noted.

Now, the award-winning singer is charting a comeback with his latest release, “Favour.” The song serves as a reminder to believers of the blessings upon their lives and the power of speaking favor into existence.

With a refreshed mindset and renewed purpose, Cwesi Oteng is poised to reassert his place in Ghana’s gospel landscape, inspiring listeners not just with his music but with his story of resilience and faith.
