Ghanaian Highlife star Akwaboah Jnr has revealed that some female fans expressed disappointment and stopped following him after he got married last year — but he believes his music will win them back.
In an interview with Adom TV sighted by Ghana Weekend on Thursday, October 9, Akwaboah Jnr, whose full name is Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr, shared that several female fans voiced their shock and disappointment on social media after his wedding.

“Some came to my DM on Facebook and Instagram to express their disappointment and shock that I’m married. In fact, the day I got married, OMG, the comments!” he said, laughing.
The “Obiaa” hitmaker explained that such reactions are not unusual, comparing them to how some church members react when their pastor gets married.
“There’s a difference between talent and character. When you use your talent, it attracts a lot of people, but your character sets things apart,” he noted.
Despite losing some admirers, Akwaboah said he remains confident that his heartfelt music will win them over again.
“Some have been very supportive, and I believe those who left will surely come back because they love my songs,” he added.

Akwaboah Jnr, celebrated for his soulful vocals and masterful songwriting, has long been regarded as one of Ghana’s most consistent modern Highlife artistes. With a string of hits including “Hold Me Down,” “Hye Me Bo,” and “I Do Love You,” he continues to bridge traditional Highlife with contemporary sound, earning him respect both locally and internationally.
His calm and humble personality, combined with his lyrical depth, has helped him build a loyal fan base over the years — one he believes will remain steadfast as he continues to release more inspiring music.
Akwaboah Jnr’s marriage has also sparked positive conversations about balancing fame, family, and faith in the entertainment industry. Many fans have praised him for setting a good example and showing that love and success can coexist in show business.
The singer has hinted at releasing more love-inspired songs that reflect his new phase of life, blending real-life experiences with his signature Highlife sound.
As he continues to tour and perform across Ghana, Akwaboah remains committed to creating timeless music that touches hearts, promotes love, and preserves Ghana’s cherished Highlife culture for future generations.
