Ghanaian media personality and singer, Afua Asantewaa, has once again fallen short of securing the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest individual singing marathon. Following an official review by the GWR team, her second attempt has been disqualified due to violations of rest break regulations, which are fundamental to maintaining fairness and consistency across all official record attempts.
In a formal statement, the Guinness World Records explained that the attempt could not be validated due to two critical breaches of the permitted rest periods. According to the GWR guidelines, participants are allowed five minutes of rest for every hour of continuous performance. Unfortunately, Afua’s team reportedly overstepped these limits on two separate occasions.

The first infraction occurred during sequence 19 at 23:25, when Afua allegedly took a 15-minute break despite being entitled to only five minutes. The second and more significant breach happened during sequence 21, where she took a 105-minute break, even though her accumulated rest time allowed for just ten minutes.
“These violations unfortunately prevent us from validating the attempt,” stated the GWR. “It is crucial that all record attempts maintain the integrity of our standards through strict adherence to the official rules.”
This news marks Afua Asantewaa’s second unsuccessful attempt to clinch the prestigious title. Her previous attempt had also fallen short, but she approached this second endeavor with renewed passion, dedication, and an outpouring of national support.
Despite the disappointment, Afua remains gracious and optimistic. In a statement issued after the GWR verdict, she expressed deep appreciation to her supporters both in Ghana and around the world.
“It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey,” she said. “Exploring my potential on the Guinness World Records platform has brought about growth, discovery, and life-altering experiences.”

Afua took time to thank her team, sponsors, and notable figures who supported her through the journey, including the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and various corporate sponsors. Their commitment and encouragement, she said, were instrumental in the bold pursuit of her dream.
While this disqualification marks another hurdle in her world record pursuit, Afua made it clear that her journey is far from over. She reaffirmed her dedication to pushing boundaries and making an impact both in Ghana and globally.

Her resilience and passion have already positioned her as a symbol of perseverance and inspiration, especially for young creatives in Ghana looking to shine on international platforms. Whether or not she sets a record in the future, Afua Asantewaa’s determination continues to resonate with many, making her a figure to watch in the realm of endurance challenges and musical achievement.
