Media personality Kafui Dey has praised award-winning musician Black Sherif for his determination, discipline, and unique approach to promoting his music during the early days of his career.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime TV on Wednesday, June 10, Kafui Dey shared a conversation he had with the “Kwaku The Traveller” hitmaker about the journey that led him to national and international recognition.

According to Kafui Dey, Black Sherif revealed that one of his biggest promotional tools before breaking into the mainstream was WhatsApp Status.
“I asked him, ‘How did you blow up?’ and he said, ‘WhatsApp Status,’” Kafui Dey revealed.
He explained that the young musician consistently posted his songs on his status, allowing his music to reach people beyond his immediate circle.
Kafui Dey said Black Sherif realised his music was gaining attention when people in his hometown, Konongo, who were not personally known to him, began approaching him with compliments.
“He knew the thing was going far when he walked through Konongo and people he didn’t know kept saying, ‘Good music,’” Kafui Dey recounted.
The broadcaster noted that Black Sherif’s experience highlights the power of digital platforms, especially WhatsApp Status, which he described as a personal television channel where users can directly showcase their content to an audience.
Beyond his creative strategy, Kafui Dey also commended the musician’s attitude and maturity, saying Black Sherif possesses a level of wisdom and focus beyond his age.

“Blacko is a soft guy but very focused. He sounds older than he is. He sounds like a 40-year-old, and he’s just in his early 20s,” he stated.
Black Sherif has grown into one of Ghana’s biggest music exports, earning recognition across Africa and beyond with his distinctive storytelling, emotional lyrics, and unique musical style.
Kafui Dey’s comments offer a glimpse into the persistence and innovative mindset that helped shape the artiste’s journey from a young musician sharing songs online to becoming a global African music
