Tariq Lamptey has officially parted ways with ACF Fiorentina after the Italian club confirmed the mutual termination of his contract.
The decision brings an unfortunate end to what was expected to be a fresh start for the Ghanaian defender following his move from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer.

Lamptey joined Fiorentina in a reported €6 million transfer and signed a three-year contract amid hopes that a move to Serie A would help revive his career after several injury setbacks in England.
The 25-year-old right-back arrived in Florence with strong credentials, having previously impressed at Brighton and earning recognition during his early breakthrough years after graduating from the Chelsea FC academy.
Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard had once praised Lamptey’s explosive performances following his standout display against Arsenal during his early Premier League days.
However, his time in Italy quickly turned into another frustrating chapter due to recurring injury problems.
Lamptey managed only two substitute appearances before making what would become his first and final start for Fiorentina in a Serie A clash against Como 1907 on September 21, 2025.
Unfortunately, the defender’s game lasted only 22 minutes before he suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
The injury setback continued a worrying pattern that has followed Lamptey throughout much of his professional career.
During his spell at Brighton, the Ghana international endured several lengthy periods on the sidelines due to fitness problems, limiting his consistency and development despite his obvious talent and pace.
In total, Lamptey leaves Fiorentina after playing just 25 minutes across all competitions.
The club confirmed that both parties agreed to terminate the contract immediately with two Serie A matches still left in the season.
The development now leaves the Ghanaian international as a free agent at a critical point in his career.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, concerns are growing over Lamptey’s chances of returning to full fitness and reclaiming a place in the Ghana national football team squad.
Lamptey was once regarded as one of Ghana’s most exciting defensive talents due to his speed, attacking qualities and versatility on the flank.
However, repeated injury setbacks have significantly slowed his progress over the past few seasons.
Despite the disappointment, many football fans and analysts believe the defender still possesses the quality to rebuild his career if he can remain fit and find the right environment to regain confidence and consistency.
For now, attention will turn to Lamptey’s recovery process and the next step in his football journey as he searches for a new club ahead of the upcoming World Cup year.
