The Minister for Sports and Recreation has disclosed that the full contract details of newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz are yet to be finalised, despite his official unveiling and commencement of duties.

The experienced Portuguese tactician was introduced on Thursday, April 23, 2026, and has been tasked with leading the Ghana national football team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the departure of Otto Addo.

Although his appointment has already been announced, the minister explained that the final documentation and full contractual arrangements are still being completed.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosisen programme, the minister dismissed reports claiming Queiroz would earn around $100,000 per month.

“I will check the figures [of his salary] because we have not finalised and signed the full contract and everything, so I cannot give the exact figure, but it’s not up $100,000,” he stated.

According to the minister, both parties initially agreed to a short-term arrangement focused solely on the World Cup campaign.

“The condition we agreed was that we were going for a short-term contract, maximum four months, for the period of the World Cup, but the performance would determine any further agreement,” he added.

Despite the contract process still ongoing, Queiroz has already begun preparations for the tournament.

The 73-year-old coach is currently on a European tour where he is expected to hold meetings with some senior Ghana players, including captain Jordan Ayew and midfielder Thomas Partey.

The meetings are seen as part of efforts to build relationships, assess player readiness, and prepare a competitive squad ahead of the global tournament.

Queiroz is also expected to announce his provisional squad in the coming weeks as preparations intensify.

Ghana’s build-up to the World Cup will include international friendly matches against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team.

His appointment has generated mixed reactions among fans, with many hopeful that his vast international experience can help stabilise the team and guide the Black Stars to a strong tournament showing.

Queiroz has previously managed several national teams, including Portugal, Iran, Egypt, and Colombia, and is regarded as one of the most experienced coaches on the international stage.

With time running down to the World Cup, attention now turns to whether the contractual details will be concluded swiftly and how the veteran coach shapes Ghana’s final squad.
