The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, has assured Ghanaian content creators that the central bank is ready to support them in addressing challenges related to receiving payments from digital platforms.

The assurance was given during an engagement session held at Bank Square on Wednesday, April 22. The meeting brought together a number of content creators, particularly those active on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), to discuss concerns surrounding delayed payments, failed transactions, and other financial barriers affecting their work.

Speaking at the event, Dr Asiama emphasised that the Bank of Ghana recognises the growing importance of content creation in the country’s digital economy. He noted that creators are contributing significantly to Ghana’s global visibility and economic development, drawing a comparison between their work and traditional export sectors such as cocoa.

According to him, the central bank is committed to ensuring that creators can receive their earnings smoothly without unnecessary disruptions. He stressed that the Bank remains open and accessible to help resolve any payout-related concerns.

“If you have any issues with your payouts, we are ready to help,” he said. “We are making ourselves accessible so that we resolve all the issues that you have.”

The Governor explained that the Bank of Ghana is actively exploring ways to improve the financial ecosystem for digital workers. This includes working with payment service providers and financial institutions to remove bottlenecks that often delay or complicate transactions from international platforms.

He also encouraged content creators to organise themselves into a structured association. According to him, having a unified body would make it easier for regulators to engage with them, understand their challenges, and implement solutions more effectively.

Dr Asiama noted that a coordinated approach would ensure that issues are identified early and addressed before they escalate. He added that such collaboration would also help shape policies that better reflect the needs of Ghana’s fast-growing digital workforce.

The engagement reflects a broader effort by the Bank of Ghana to adapt to the changing dynamics of the economy, where digital entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly important. With more young people turning to online platforms for income, addressing payment challenges has become a priority for both regulators and industry players.

Many creators have previously raised concerns about difficulties in accessing funds earned from global platforms. These challenges often include currency conversion issues, transaction delays, and limited support from local financial systems.

By stepping in to offer support, the Bank of Ghana aims to build confidence among creators and encourage more participation in the digital economy. The move is also expected to improve efficiency in cross-border transactions and enhance Ghana’s position in the global digital space.

Dr Asiama reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment, stating that supporting content creators is part of a larger vision to strengthen innovation and economic growth in the country.

“We are interested in what you are doing and will do everything to facilitate your work,” he added.

The initiative signals a positive step towards bridging the gap between traditional financial systems and the evolving needs of digital professionals in Ghana.
