Mamprobi Baby Theft Suspect Formally Charged, Case Adjourned to March 4

The Dansoman Command of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Latifa Salifu, the suspect accused of stealing a four-day-old baby at Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra, has been formally charged.

According to police, the case has been adjourned to March 4, 2026, when the suspect is expected to reappear in court for the next hearing. She remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, February 24, the Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Abraham Apusyine, stated that the suspect is being held to assist with the completion of investigations.

“She is in custody to assist us in concluding all aspects of the investigation, and then she will reappear before the court on the 4th of March,” he said. “For now, other aspects of the investigation are ongoing, and she is in safe custody until the 4th of March.”

The case has drawn significant public attention following reports that the newborn was allegedly taken from the Mamprobi Polyclinic, causing distress to the child’s family and the wider community.

Also addressing the media, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear before the court as legal proceedings begin to ensure justice for the affected family.

She further disclosed that the baby is responding well to medical treatment and is expected to be discharged later on Tuesday. In addition, she noted that psychological support will be provided to the parents to help them cope with the trauma resulting from the incident.

Earlier, on February 20, 2026, the 33-year-old trader was remanded into custody by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit Court in Accra. She was charged with one count of child stealing before a court presided over by K. K. Obiri Yeboah. Her plea was not taken at the time because investigations were still ongoing.

The prosecution, led by Opoku Aniagyei, informed the court that investigations had not been concluded and requested that the accused be remanded in custody pending further inquiries.

Authorities have assured the public that due process will be followed and that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure justice is served. The case is expected to resume on March 4, 2026, as investigations continue.
