Six Aggrey Memorial Students Arrested Over Assault on Adisadel Pupil

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested six juvenile students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School for allegedly assaulting a final-year pupil of Adisadel College during an inter-colleges sports festival in Cape Coast.

The violent incident reportedly occurred on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Pedu Junction, shortly after activities at the Cape Coast Stadium had concluded. The victim, identified as Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was said to have been walking with two friends when they were confronted by a group of Aggrey Memorial students.

According to reports, the group allegedly asked the boys whether they attended Adisadel College. Moments later, the confrontation escalated into a brutal attack. While Rexford’s two friends managed to escape, he was reportedly caught, kicked to the ground, and severely beaten.

The attackers allegedly robbed him of his iPhone 17 Pro Max, GH¢1,400 in cash, and his shoes before fleeing the scene. The victim was initially treated at the stadium clinic before being referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital for further medical attention. He was discharged on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Medical reports indicate that Rexford suffered serious injuries, including a fractured nerve bone in his right eye. Doctors noted that he is currently unable to open the affected eye, with concerns raised about the potential risk of the eyeball protruding due to the severity of the trauma.

The Ghana Police Service, through the Central Regional Command, strongly condemned the act. ASP Patrick Bentum, Acting Public Affairs Officer, stated that the juvenile suspects have been taken into custody and will face the full rigours of the law.

“The Central Regional Police Command strongly condemns this act of violence,” ASP Bentum said. “The juvenile offenders have been arrested and due process will be followed to ensure justice is served.”

The two friends who escaped the attack have reportedly confirmed that they can identify the suspects, providing key support to the ongoing police investigation.

Authorities have appealed to school communities across the region to maintain peace, discipline, and sportsmanship during inter-school activities. Police assured the public that the safety and security of students remain a top priority and that acts of violence will not be tolerated.

The incident comes amid growing concerns about student violence during school sporting events in the Central Region. In a related development, three students from the Swedru School of Business were recently arrested over the assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School during a district athletics competition in Agona Swedru.

These recent cases have intensified calls for stricter supervision, enhanced security presence, and renewed emphasis on discipline during school events to prevent further incidents and protect students across the region.
