Lumba’s Family Denies Funeral Rumours, Backs Papa Shee

The family of the late Ghanaian highlife icon Charles Kojo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, has released a strongly worded statement to address what they describe as persistent misinformation surrounding his funeral preparations and internal family matters.

The release, dated December 6, seeks to set the record straight amid widespread public speculation and numerous circulating claims on social media and traditional media platforms.

Central to the statement is the family’s reaffirmation of Nana Yaw Akosah, popularly known as Evangelist Papa Shee, as the officially appointed spokesperson for the family. In recent days, rumours have surfaced suggesting that Papa Shee is not a legitimate member of the late musician’s family and therefore lacks the authority to speak on their behalf. The family dismissed these claims as “false and unfounded,” emphasizing that he has been duly mandated to represent them in all public matters related to the funeral and legacy of Daddy Lumba.

The statement also addressed controversial comments made by Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu on UTV, where he reportedly questioned the authenticity of a German marriage certificate belonging to the late musician and his wife, Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosu. According to the family, the remarks made on the broadcast were “pathetic, uninformed, and biased,” and they insist that the marriage certificate in question is genuine and legally recognized in Germany.

The issue gained further traction after a widely circulated funeral poster surfaced online, displaying the name of Mrs. Fosu alongside that of another woman labeled as a “widow.” The family clarified that the poster was published without the consent or approval of the true family and does not represent their wishes or authoritative information. They further explained that some of the names included on the poster were added merely for “cosmetic purposes” and advised the public to disregard them.

The family also acknowledged the existence of a recent court ruling related to the disputed marriage certificate. While they said they respect the ruling of the court, they made it clear that they disagree with certain aspects of the decision and intend to pursue legal steps to establish the complete truth. They reassured the Ghanaian community living in Germany that German marriage documents remain authentic, valid, and defensible, and that the misinformation being spread has no basis in fact.

In the concluding part of their statement, the family underscored their unwavering unity and shared dedication to protecting the dignity of Daddy Lumba’s lawful wife and children. They vowed to preserve the legacy of the celebrated musician with “dignity, transparency, and truth,” stressing that they will not allow misleading narratives to distort the memory of a man who played an extraordinary role in shaping modern Ghanaian highlife music.

Signed by the direct family of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, the release calls for the public to rely only on official family communications as funeral arrangements continue. It also urges media houses and commentators to exercise restraint and verify information before publication to avoid further confusion during this sensitive period.
