GAF to Resume Suspended 2025/2026 Recruitment Screening in Greater Accra on November 20

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the suspended 2025/2026 recruitment screening exercise for the Greater Accra Region will officially resume on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The decision comes after a temporary halt to the exercise due to a tragic stampede that resulted in casualties earlier this month.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, who serves as the Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Armed Forces. She indicated that the resumption follows a comprehensive review of safety and administrative measures to ensure a more organised and secure screening process.

According to the statement, the screening will now take place across eight sub-centres located within five major venues across the Greater Accra Region. This decentralised approach, GAF noted, is aimed at preventing overcrowding and ensuring a smooth process for all applicants.

The designated screening centres are:

  • El-Wak Stadium (two centres)
  • Nicholson Park at Burma Camp (two centres)
  • Air Force Base, Burma Camp
  • Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie (two centres)
  • Eastern Naval Command, Tema

To further ensure orderliness, applicants will be processed in batches. “All qualified applicants in batches of 600 persons will receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches and designated centres,” the statement said. Candidates are also encouraged to visit the official recruitment portal for additional updates and instructions.

GAF emphasised that only applicants will be permitted entry to the screening centres. Families, friends, and other non-applicants are strictly barred from accompanying candidates, a measure aimed at reducing congestion and guaranteeing safety.

For applicants who do not receive a text message by November 20, the Armed Forces advised them to contact the designated helpline or reach out via the WhatsApp number provided in the earlier announcements. This, according to GAF, is to ensure that no qualified applicant is left behind due to communication issues.

The recruitment exercise was suspended after a stampede that occurred at one of the centres, leading to injuries and fatalities. In response, GAF established a Board of Inquiry to investigate the events that led to the tragedy. Captain Arhin confirmed that the inquiry is still ongoing and assured the public that anyone found culpable will be sanctioned in accordance with military regulations and national laws.

In a move to restore public confidence, the entire Greater Accra recruitment leadership team has been replaced. The new officers now overseeing the exercise include:

  • Commodore F.A. Nyarko – Head of Human Resources
  • Colonel F. Kusi-Darko – Head of Manpower
  • Colonel G.B. Eduah – Head of Information Technology

GAF described the leadership changes as part of broader reforms to promote transparency, strengthen supervision, and enhance accountability during the recruitment process.

Captain Arhin also extended the Armed Forces’ condolences to families who lost loved ones in the stampede, expressing deep regret over the incident. She added that the injured applicants are receiving free medical treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, and will continue to be supported until full recovery.

In addition, the Ghana Armed Forces has introduced a “special recruitment package” for both the injured individuals and the families affected by the stampede. Although details of the package were not disclosed, GAF assured the public that it forms part of efforts to show compassion and maintain fairness.

The statement concluded by urging the general public to cooperate fully with the updated recruitment arrangements.
“The Ghana Armed Forces continues to count on the cooperation of the general public in this endeavour,” Captain Arhin said.

With new safety protocols, expanded screening centres, and revised leadership supervision, GAF believes the resumed recruitment process will be more efficient, transparent, and secure for all applicants.
