Final Funeral Rites for Highlife Legend Daddy Lumba Set for December 13, 2025

The final funeral rites for Ghanaian Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have been rescheduled to December 13, 2025.

This new date was confirmed by the Asantehene’s Traditional Council following the resolution of a dispute within the late musician’s family. The funeral had previously been announced for December 6, 2025, but internal disagreements over planning and decision-making prompted a formal summons before the Saamanhene.

According to reports, Ernestina Fosuh, the elder sister of the late musician, accused the family head, Kofi Owusu, of excluding her from crucial funeral arrangements and making unilateral decisions without consulting the broader family.

In response to her grievances, she invoked Otumfuo’s Great Oath (Ntam Kɛseɛ), a serious traditional measure that required both parties to appear before the Traditional Council on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Following the hearing, the Council dissolved the existing funeral committee and instructed Ernestina Fosuh to investigate concerns surrounding her brother’s death, ensuring transparency and proper family representation in the funeral planning process.

Regarding the contentious question of who qualifies as the rightful widow of Daddy Lumba, the Traditional Council declined to make a ruling, explaining that the issue is already before the courts and will be determined through the appropriate legal process.

The Council’s directives aim to restore peace and unity within the family ahead of the official funeral date, ensuring that the legendary musician is honoured with the dignity befitting his legacy.

Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s most celebrated Highlife musicians, boasts a career spanning over three decades. His timeless hits and contributions to Ghanaian music have cemented his place as a cultural icon, inspiring generations of artistes and music lovers alike.

Fans across the nation are expected to gather to celebrate his life and legacy during the funeral rites in December, marking a fitting farewell to one of Ghana’s greatest musical legends.
