Yemi Alade Says Collaboration With Tiwa Savage ‘May Never Happen’

Nigerian Afropop star Yemi Alade has ruled out the possibility of a musical collaboration with fellow singer Tiwa Savage, despite constant calls from fans for the two powerhouse vocalists to work together.

In an interview on the ‘WithChude’ podcast on YouTube, the “Johnny” hitmaker explained that she prefers to stay away from situations that could invite unnecessary drama or tension into her life.

“But I know that the fan-favourite collaboration is Tiwa Savage you mentioned. I’d rather stay clear; I don’t want problems in my life,” Yemi Alade said.

While affirming her belief in women supporting women and highlighting her numerous collaborations with other female artists, Yemi noted that a joint project with Tiwa Savage might never happen because of the potential controversies that fans and the media could create.

“There is no issue at all. The thing is, most fans and the media tend to stir waters that are supposed to be still. There is literally no problem,” she clarified.

The comments have reignited conversations about the long-standing tension between the two stars, which first made headlines in December 2018 when Yemi Alade seemingly shaded other female entertainers who, according to her, “deceive fans by enlarging their buttocks” in photos shared on social media.

Although she did not mention names, the post came just hours after Tiwa Savage had uploaded curvy photos of herself on Instagram — a move that led fans to assume the comment was directed at her.

In response, Tiwa took to her Instagram page with a message that appeared to address Yemi’s post, writing: “Don’t start a war you can’t finish.”

Since then, both artists have avoided direct confrontation, though public demand for a collaboration between them has never waned.

Over the years, Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage have solidified their positions as two of Africa’s most successful female musicians, dominating the Afrobeats scene with their powerful vocals, chart-topping hits, and global influence.

Despite their differences, both continue to champion female empowerment and represent Nigeria on international stages.

Fans continue to hope that one day the two queens of Afropop will put aside perceived rivalries and deliver a groundbreaking collaboration that celebrates unity among women in the music industry.

Until then, their individual achievements continue to shape Africa’s music narrative and inspire millions of aspiring artists worldwide.
