Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen’s political movement, the Movement for Change, has officially rebranded and will now operate under the name United Party (UP).
The rebranding was announced at a ceremony held in Accra on Thursday, signaling a new phase in the former Minister of Trade and Industry’s bid to contest Ghana’s presidency outside the country’s dominant NPP–NDC political system.

Speaking at the launch, Alan Kyerematen, now Leader of the United Party, said the new identity reflects a broader national vision anchored on unity, development, and economic transformation.
“The vision of the United Party is to make Ghana the economic powerhouse of Africa by 2040,” Kyerematen declared.
Kyerematen, who resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2023, cited unfair treatment and deep internal divisions as reasons for his departure. Following his exit, he established the Movement for Change, symbolized by a butterfly, which represented renewal, hope, and transformation.
The transformation into the United Party aims to expand the movement’s reach and build a stronger political structure capable of challenging Ghana’s two-party dominance. Kyerematen reiterated that his campaign remains focused on delivering a “transformational leadership agenda”, promising pragmatic policies that prioritize industrial growth, job creation, and national unity.
Political analysts say the rebrand could help consolidate Kyerematen’s support base and attract undecided voters seeking an alternative to the country’s traditional political blocs.

The rebranding has sparked mixed reactions across Ghana’s political landscape. Supporters of Alan Kyerematen believe the move gives his campaign a stronger national identity capable of attracting a wider base of Ghanaians disillusioned with the two main political parties.
Others, however, question whether the United Party can gain enough momentum to make a significant impact in the next general elections. Political commentators suggest that Kyerematen’s experience, credibility, and message of economic transformation could resonate with young voters seeking change.
As the 2028 elections draw nearer, the United Party’s ability to organize nationwide structures will determine its political strength.
