The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) has announced that all transport and market activities at Jubilee Park in Takoradi will cease in the coming weeks. This directive, issued by the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), forms part of efforts to repurpose the park and streamline market and transport operations within the municipality.
In a statement signed by Hon. Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nassam, Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, the Assembly outlined a clear timetable for the relocation of transport operators and traders currently operating at the park.
The decision was reached during a MUSEC meeting held on Monday, 29th September 2025, and is to be implemented in phases beginning Monday, 6th October 2025.
From October 6, 2025, all transport operations at Jubilee Park will be terminated. Drivers and commuters who previously relied on the park will now be required to operate from the Apremdo Central Market (Abenebom) Lorry Station, where designated spaces have been provided.
The Assembly explained that the relocation is intended to reduce congestion in the central business district, improve traffic management, and ensure that the park is reserved for its intended public uses.
In addition to the transport directive, EKMA also announced that from October 6, 2025, the bulk discharge of foodstuffs will only be permitted at the Apremdo Central Market (Abenebom). This measure is aimed at streamlining foodstuff distribution and enhancing sanitation conditions in the municipality.

By Monday, 13th October 2025, the Assembly expects all market activities at Jubilee Park to cease completely. Traders who continue to operate at the park beyond the deadline will be sanctioned in line with the Assembly’s bye-laws, which may include the forfeiture of goods.
The Assembly stressed that the move is not intended to disrupt livelihoods but to promote orderliness, safety, and effective space management in Takoradi. Municipal officials argue that Jubilee Park, which has hosted both commercial and social activities for years, has been overstretched and is no longer suitable for the current scale of market and transport operations.
To guarantee compliance, the Assembly has indicated that enforcement teams will monitor the transition period. Traders and transport operators are therefore encouraged to cooperate fully to avoid sanctions.
Hon. Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nassam appealed to transport operators, traders, and the general public to support the directive in the interest of the wider community.
“The cooperation of all stakeholders, particularly transport operators, traders, and the general public, is earnestly requested to ensure a smooth transition,” the MCE said.

The Assembly further noted that the repurposing of Jubilee Park will eventually benefit residents by restoring the park’s role as a community space rather than an overcrowded trading and transport hub.
For inquiries and further clarification, EKMA has advised the public to contact the Public Relations Office on 050 822 8924.
The directive marks a significant change for Takoradi’s commercial and transport landscape and is expected to reshape operations in the municipality’s busiest areas over the next few weeks.
