The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has reportedly arrested Kofi Akpaloo, leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), in a dawn operation at his base in Kumasi.
According to reliable sources, the exercise was conducted by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) from its Accra headquarters, working in coordination with the agency’s Ashanti Regional Office.

The arrest, which was said to have been executed without incident, took place in the early hours of Wednesday.
Though the exact reasons for Akpaloo’s arrest remain unclear, sources indicate that he has been transferred to Accra, where he is expected to assist investigators with ongoing inquiries.
As of now, EOCO has not issued an official statement regarding the arrest or the nature of the investigation.
Kofi Akpaloo, who founded the Liberal Party of Ghana after breaking away from the Independent People’s Party (IPP), has been an active political figure, contesting in Ghana’s presidential elections. His detention by EOCO comes at a time when the agency has been intensifying its nationwide surveillance and recovery operations.

Political observers are closely monitoring developments, as the arrest of a political party leader is likely to draw significant public and media attention.
Until EOCO releases further information, the circumstances surrounding Akpaloo’s arrest remain speculative. However, the move underscores EOCO’s mandate to investigate suspected economic and organised crimes in Ghana.
