39 Arrested in Major Cybercrime Raid at Tema Community 25

A joint operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has led to the arrest of 39 individuals at Adom City Estate, Tema Community 25, in what authorities describe as one of the most significant crackdowns on cybercrime in recent months.

The suspects were picked up in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025, after weeks of intelligence-led surveillance on a suspected cyber fraud hub believed to have been operating within the residential enclave.

According to officials, the swoop was carried out under heavy security deployment to ensure order during the operation. Law enforcement officers stormed several residences within Adom City Estate, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Among those detained were three minors and a woman alleged to be an escort connected to one of the ringleaders. Authorities seized several digital devices, laptops, and other equipment believed to have been used in executing online fraud schemes. These items have since been sent for forensic examination.

The 39 suspects have been taken into custody and are being transported to the CID Headquarters in Accra for profiling and further interrogation.

A police spokesperson confirmed that due process will be observed, especially in handling the cases of the minors, stressing that child protection guidelines will be followed.

In a joint briefing, officials from the CSA and CID explained that the raid forms part of a national cybercrime enforcement strategy aimed at dismantling sophisticated online fraud networks.

The Cyber Security Authority has repeatedly warned about the rising trend of internet-enabled crimes in Ghana, including romance scams, mobile money fraud, phishing attacks, and identity theft. These activities not only exploit individuals but also undermine confidence in Ghana’s digital economy.

“This clampdown is part of ongoing efforts to secure Ghana’s cyberspace. Cybercrime remains a real threat to individuals and institutions, and the public must remain vigilant,” a CSA spokesperson said.

Thursday’s operation adds to a growing list of raids conducted in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, as authorities intensify efforts to combat cybercrime syndicates across the country.

Ghana has been identified as a hotspot for certain types of advance-fee fraud and romance scams, often operated by syndicates who recruit young people into illegal activities under the guise of quick wealth.

The arrests highlight the growing sophistication of these groups, many of whom now operate from upscale residential communities such as Adom City Estate.

The CSA has urged Ghanaians to exercise caution when engaging in online financial transactions and to report suspicious activities to law enforcement.

Meanwhile, the CID assured the public that all suspects will be processed according to Ghana’s laws, with strong emphasis on protecting minors and ensuring transparency in investigations.

The Tema Community 25 raid underscores the government’s intensified efforts to crack down on cybercrime and restore public trust in Ghana’s digital landscape. With 39 suspects in custody, the spotlight now turns to the outcome of the ongoing investigations and whether further arrests will follow in what appears to be a larger cybercrime network.
