Minister Inaugurates GTDC Governing Board, Charges Members to Drive Sustainable Tourism Growth

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has officially inaugurated the new Governing Board of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), urging its members to champion sustainable growth in the tourism sector and provide strategic leadership.

The brief but significant ceremony, held in Accra, represents a crucial move in Ghana’s broader effort to diversify its economy through tourism, culture, and creative arts.

In her address, Minister Gomashie underlined the importance of the GTDC in Ghana’s national tourism development agenda and called on the new board members to serve with integrity, diligence, and professionalism.

“Your role as board members comes with many challenges,” she stated. “The survival, or otherwise, of the institution depends on the leadership you provide. You must ensure effective resource management, promote good governance, and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders.”

Ben Ohene-Ayeh, Chairperson of the newly constituted board, expressed gratitude to the Minister and to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve. He assured that the board would work tirelessly to fulfill its mandate.

“We are humbled by the confidence reposed in us. We pledge to give our utmost in driving the vision of the GTDC and promoting tourism as a key economic driver,” Ohene-Ayeh said.

The GTDC plays a vital role in tourism promotion, product development, and investment facilitation. With its new board in place, expectations are high for renewed energy and innovation in attracting both domestic and international tourists.

The board is expected to initiate and support public-private partnerships, drive marketing strategies, and align with Ghana’s Beyond the Return initiative, focusing on heritage tourism and diaspora engagement.

The inauguration signals a renewed commitment by the government to elevate Ghana’s tourism potential. As the country seeks to recover from the global downturn in travel and hospitality, the board’s actions will be closely watched by industry stakeholders, investors, and cultural advocates alike.
