MUSIGA to Hold Candlelight Procession Honouring Late Highlife Legend Dada KD

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced a solemn and heartfelt candlelight procession in honour of the late highlife legend Dada KD, whose passing has sent ripples of grief throughout the country’s music industry and beyond.

Scheduled to take place on Friday, June 20, 2025, the commemorative event will commence at the Unity Oil Station near the Achimota Old Station and conclude at Peace FM at Abeka Junction. The procession is set to begin promptly at 6:00 PM and is expected to draw a large turnout of music lovers, industry players, and sympathisers.

MUSIGA, in a statement, extended a warm invitation to fellow musicians, fans, industry stakeholders, and the general public to come together and celebrate the life and legacy of Dada KD, a man whose melodious voice and emotionally rich compositions elevated the soul of highlife music in Ghana for decades.

Participants are encouraged to dress in all-black clothing or wear customised tribute T-shirts adorned with Dada KD’s image or name, symbolising collective mourning and unity. The Union believes this unified display will reflect the deep respect and admiration the country has for one of its most beloved musical sons.

Dada KD, born Kwame Dwamena, was known for his smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrical themes that touched on love, life, and social consciousness. His contributions to the Ghanaian highlife genre made him a household name and a musical inspiration to younger generations. His timeless classics and dedication to his craft earned him a special place in the hearts of Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

The candlelight walk is more than just a tribute—it is a public expression of gratitude and reflection. It provides an opportunity for the Ghanaian creative community and music enthusiasts to walk side by side, not only in memory of a fallen icon but also in a renewed appreciation of the role of music in national identity and cultural preservation.

In recent years, candlelight processions have become an increasingly significant part of Ghana’s cultural mourning process for departed public figures, symbolising peaceful remembrance and the unifying power of music and legacy.

MUSIGA has pledged to continue honouring the memory of musicians who have made a meaningful impact on Ghana’s music landscape, and the Dada KD procession stands as a testament to that commitment.

As preparations continue, organisers are calling on the public to show up in numbers and help illuminate the path of remembrance for a man whose music brought joy, love, and truth to countless lives.

May the soul of Dada KD rest in perfect harmony.
